1 Chronicles 15:29 The rest of the story - Day 324

Good morning saints in the Lord,

For those of us of a certain age, Paul Harvey's closing line "and now you know the rest of the story" brings back memories.  So today's single verse seems to fit into this idea.  A detail just kind of hanging there for us modern readers.  But the returning exiles would be familiar with this story.  So I used the Complete Word Study Bible notes to fill in the rest of the story for you.

Another twist in a "marriage made in heaven".  She is daughter of king Saul, sister of Jonathan (David's best friend), wife of king David,  given to David as wife for the bride price of 100 Philistine foreskins (plot by Saul for David to be killed by the Philistines); helps David escape from Saul with the "image in the bed" trick, while still married to David, her father gave her in marriage to another, Phaltiel; at the death of Saul, David forced her to return. Also adoptive mother of five sons of her sister Merab (David gave these five to the Gibeonites who murdered them in retribution for Saul's action against them);  Now she sees David dancing before the Lord and despises him in her heart.  Parallel passage in 2 Sam says she didn't keep it to herself and that she had not children of her own.

I am guessing that David's deal with the Gibeonites (2 Sam 21) soured the relationship before the events in this passage.

So why does the author include this little detail?  How does this relate to promise of Genesis 3:15?  It seems to me that this is another "line of David only" perspective for the returning exiles to hold onto.  And for us it leads to Jesus.

Good morning fellow members of the household of God, After writing the devotional, I am thinking about the Passover as a household event.  In ancient Israel, the physical household of man was covered by the blood of the lamb.  Now, it is the spiritual household of God that is covered by the blood of the Lamb. Blessings, Jeff The account of the greatest celebration of Passover since time of Solomon (v 26).   Observations: One of the things that made this one great is participation of some of the tribes from the northern kingdom.  Israel was a united kingdom and Solomon and now toward the end of the northern kingdom, there is at least a semblance of being united. Revelation 22:3-5 Final and eternal restoration - Day 365
