Good morning friends,
Sometimes we get wrapped up in all the details of the tabernacle and now Solomon's temple. So here are some thoughts about the Holy of Holies which is the focal point of the house of God.
Blessings,
Jeff
The cherubim in the inner sanctuary aka the Holy of Holies.
The Holy of Holies in the tabernacle was 20x20x20 cubits. The ark itself was 2.5x1.5 cubits. So a relatively large space for a relatively small box where the infinite God met with His people.
Exodus 25:17-20 You shall make a mercy seat of pure gold. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, and a cubit and a half its breadth. 18 And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. 19 Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end. Of one piece with the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. 20 The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be.
So there were 2 sets of cherubim in Solomon's temple. The two on the mercy seat and the two larger ones that stretched cross the width of the room.
The two on the mercy seat faced each other. The two larger ones faced the high priest when he entered for the annual sacrifice.
mercy-seat, place of atonement the golden plate of propitiation on which the High Priest sprinkled the seat 7 times on the Day of Atonement symbolically reconciling Jehovah and His chosen people
