Job 25:4-6 Wisdom and the Word Day 56

Good morning fellow soldiers (sailors, airmen and marines)

 I recently had a flash back to my Navy days.  "Standing orders" were the like the 10 commandments.  Whatever you were doing, these orders always applied.  You were expected to know and obey just as if the captain verbally gave you an order.  If you ever found yourself in a situation where you wondered if the standing orders applied, the answer was Yes they apply.  Not knowing the standing orders was not an excuse for non-compliance.  When I was being examined for qualification as Officer of the Deck (officer in charge of ensuring that standing orders were being applied), I was asked questions that exposed my lack of knowledge.  Why am I telling you this?  I hope you see that God has given us his standing orders.

Job finishes his response to the second round and then Bildad starts the third and final round of comments.  At least he keeps it brief, just 6 verses.  No longer accusing Job and seems to be pondering why everybody isn't in Job's predicament.  Man as a maggot and worm sounds like "total depravity".  Maybe Bildad is becoming wise.

Both Bible studies are looking at Solomon "the wisest man ever"  Currently his history as king as a context for Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.  McArthur study guide has a summary "Wisdom comes through God's Word and He gives it freely to those who ask".  Isn't it interesting that the only way to know that God gives wisdom to those who ask, is by being in the Word.  If you were to come to me and ask "how can I gain wisdom?" my response will always be "have you been reading and studying the Word?"  This is why I gave the challenge to read through in a year.  Wisdom is a gift.  We only receive it when we read, study and apply His Word.  When I get a birthday gift, I have to unwrap to enjoy it.  Be encouraged to keep unwrapping God's wisdom in scripture.

Malachi 2:10-12 Here we go again!! Day 363

Good afternoon friends, As we draw to the end of the Old Testament, we see that Judah has rebuilt the temple and the walls of Jerusalem, but they are following in the footsteps of faithless fathers and not in the footsteps of Abraham and ultimately God.  The exile was a low point, but now a new low is about to happen.  The prophetic voice has once again become warning and not encouraging. Faithful reading and preaching of the word is all that keeps us from losing our way.  May we be faithful in our generation. 2 Chronicles 33:7-9 Thoughts on Davidic covenant - Day 362

Good morning faithful readers, The finish line is in sight!!!  One of the themes of scripture is that God is a covenant keeping God.  There are many between God and man. Adam, Noah, David are examples.  Covenants are more than promises.  They are made between a superior and inferior with conditions for each side and blessing and penalties based on keeping the conditions.  These are covenants of works which fallen man was unable to keep.  Thanks be to God that the Father made a covenant of grace with Christ, the second Adam, which he fully kept.
